3 - The Solo Concert

Going live and going yellow.

One cold February night, a small spark gave its light to Neustadt Aisch. The city's culture&music association had set up an Open Stage evening hosting musicians, poets and a magician. I heard of it from my mom (shoutout!) who found the announcement in the local paper. Such a great opportunity - of course I'm in! And it turned out to be an amazing experience! Got to meet local artists, the head of the youth club, organizers of the event, and play songs for the open-minded people enjoying Neustadt's first open event. Since it was a big success, two more Open Stages invited artists and audiences in March and April. Naturally, I went to each one.

With the last of the three live sessions concluding in April, amici466 and I were readying our new collaboration called "Devil In Disguise". It was the first English song we wrote together and we got lots of positive feedback for it.
Immediately afterwards, the musicalcom e.V. team offered for our group called way2wavy to host one whole evening of music and entertainment in Nürnberg. We accepted, of course. What would later be called the "way2wavy Summer Stage" started taking shape two months before the concert by curating the setlists, producing songs and practicing. A lot of practicing. In the end, we had set up three hour long package, containing five solo concerts, and opening + closing segments. I loved every single moment from inception to being on this stage in front of fans, friends and family.

During my segment I revealed two new songs which were released over the course of the summer: Losing Touch and I'm Done. They tell a story of uncertainty in a very personal perspective - at the time I didn't realize how much they mirrored what I felt back then. To round out the year I yearned to make another concert happen and I took a shot at applying for the Newcomerfestival in Erlangen, where way2wavy made it to the finals the year before. And to my big surprise I was accepted as solo performer! This was the first time Joshy Flavour would be in concert - not as a part of a group, but as JF. Using my newly expanded portfolio, I crafted a setlist of eight songs plus opening segment. My outfit was decided just one day before the concert. I ordered a new pair of yellow pleaded pants last minute and loved it so much it became an iconic part of Joshy Flavour history (and is still my favourite pair of pants).

Happy with my growth and thankful for all the people and opportunities I met during the year, I again slowed down for winter, recharging for the coming year of 2024.

The story will continue in my fourth blog post, stay tuned!
